Digital Networking, also known as IP networking, is a group of communication protocols for simultaneous transmission of audio, video, text, and various other network data over the public switched phone network. Unlike other kinds of networking, digital networking allows information to be easily sent and received at very high speed. It is used in many business sectors such as telecommunication, information technology, financial sector, and the medical field.
One can utilize digital networks for any purpose as it is capable of transmitting any kind of data quickly. In addition, digital networking is being used for data networks that transport large amounts of information between different computers in a system. One example of data networks are the World Wide Web, intranet, intranetwork, WAN, FAN, satellite, TV channels, radio, and other media.
There are several components for digital networking. These include Access Control Systems (ACS), Access Points (APS), Authentication Service Providers (ASPs), bridged domain names (BDNs), congestion control systems (CCS), key access systems (KAS), modems, routers, telephones, digital data communications (DDC), unified communications management (UMC), trunking technology, packet data transmission technologies, digital switch technology, virtual private LANs (VPLs), and switches. A business may employ any number of these components, depending on the needs of its specific industry. Each component performs a particular function, and no single component can serve all the functions of a digital communication network.
ACS and AVPs: Automation Cisco’s Active Protection System or firewall is one of the major components of an ACS. It ensures the network traffic is able to travel in the digital networking environment. Apart from this, it ensures security by blocking unwanted data transmission modes such as ICMP, TCP, IMAP, and POP/SMTP. For this reason, these types of ports need to be protected by employing one or more intrusion detection devices or firewalls. As a result, these port types must be protected using security technologies such as source-destination filtering, or encryption. A firewall will perform the ACS role for both input and output (I/O) traffic in digital networking.
Apart from security, another important role for ACS is to provide the necessary I/O capabilities for building relationships between various systems and applications. Here, a digital networking system acts as a connector between the various components of a building. This is especially useful in large organizations where different departments to communicate with one another. In this case, digital networking will allow departments to link their computer systems via digital networking cables or through a virtual private network (VPN). The VPN enables departments to work from anywhere, as they would in traditional networking scenarios.
Another example is hospitals, which often maintain relations with patient’s families. By maintaining direct relationships with the families of their patients, hospitals help them manage their lives, by offering medical services and information, through digital networking. In addition, this allows them to offer their services to their clients, by using digital connections. Digital networks can also help to manage external connections to a hospital system, as well as to ensure that these connections are secure.

Here, a digital network may serve as a connector between the various systems that make up an educational institution, such as IT, communication systems, digital media, and the like.
